SANTA FE COUNTY, NM (KRQE) – Santa Fe County has approved a single-use plastic ban in unincorporated areas of the county. The ordinance covers plastic bags, straws and balloons, among other items.
First time violators will be fined $50. If the offense is repeated, the fine can increase to $300 or three days in jail. The ordinance will come into effect by the end of April. This comes nearly a decade after the City of Santa Fe banned plastic bags.
