ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Although they’re cute, fuzzy, and the perfect Easter animal, caring for bunnies takes a lot of work, the city says. And often, people get a bunny for Easter only to realize they can’t take care of a bunny.
So, to prevent that from happening, the Albuquerque City Animal Welfare Department is suspending rabbit adoptions from city shelters from March 28th through Monday, April 1st. After that, regular adoption will resume
“The promise of family life for a bunny is not until a week after Easter when the candy is gone and the bunny is forgotten,” the Department of Animal Welfare said in a press release. “Rabbits are social animals with gentle natures and individual personalities. They need just as much attention as a dog or a cat.”
