ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – After about 40 minutes of deliberation, a federal jury has found an Albuquerque native guilty of a federal firearms offense. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) says 65-year-old Maurice Lacy shot his wife in 2022 at a local Walmart Neighborhood Market.
Lacey has multiple prior felony convictions, the DOJ says. Therefore, he is not legally allowed to possess firearms. Now, a jury has found that he knowingly possessed a firearm in connection with the incident at the Walmart Neighborhood Market in the 4700 block of Cutler Avenue Northeast.
Lacy is still awaiting his sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled. Based on the crime, he faces up to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the DOJ said.
According to DOJ and court records, Lacey entered the employee breakroom at a Walmart Neighborhood Market in October 2022 and shot his wife, who was an employee there. He then told the store’s customer service desk that he had shot his wife. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
